ATEX Zone 2 Explosion-Proof Generator Set Daily Maintenance and Precautions

--PartⅠ

Daily maintenance of ATEX Zone 2 explosion-proof generator sets focuses on maintaining the integrity of the explosion-proof structure, controlling temperature rise within the T-level limits, eliminating various ignition sources, and ensuring stable genset performance. This should be carried out in the following six aspects:

1. Inspection of Explosion-Proof Structure and Seals

1) Enclosure Integrity: Regularly (e.g., weekly) inspect the enclosure, flanges, bolts, and other components of explosion-proof gensets to ensure there is no deformation, cracks, corrosion, or loose bolts. Explosion-proof gaps must meet certification requirements (exceeding the gap standard will result in loss of explosion-proof capability). For pressurized gensets, check the enclosure gaskets to ensure they are not aged or damaged, preventing the infiltration of external explosive gases.

2) Wiring and Seals: Monthly check the explosion-proof seals of junction boxes and cable entry devices to ensure they are not hardened or detached, and that the cables fit tightly to the seals without gaps. When replacing cables, use explosion-proof seals of the same specification; arbitrarily enlarging the aperture or mixing non-explosion-proof components is strictly prohibited.

3) Label Integrity: Check that the ATEX explosion-proof label on the genset is clear and intact. If the label is blurry, it must be replaced promptly to ensure traceability of explosion-proof certification information.

2. Temperature and Temperature Rise Monitoring

1) Daily Temperature Measurement: During the preheating phase before each startup and during operation, use an infrared thermometer to monitor the temperature of core components, such as the engine block, generator stator housing, and exhaust port, ensuring that the temperature does not exceed the corresponding T-level limit (e.g., T3 ≤ 200℃). If localized overheating occurs, check for blockages in the cooling ducts and malfunctions in the cooling system.

2) Exhaust System Maintenance: Clean the carbon deposits on the explosion-proof muffler every 200 hours and check the insulation layer of the exhaust pipe for integrity to prevent high-temperature exhaust from being directly exposed to the Zone 2 environment. For positive-pressure gensets, confirm that the internal air supply system is functioning properly to ensure that the airflow effectively removes heat and maintains stable internal temperature.

3. Electrical System Safety Maintenance

1) Insulation and Grounding: Measure the insulation resistance of the generator windings monthly (low-voltage gensets typically require ≥1MΩ). If insulation deteriorates, investigate for moisture or winding aging. Confirm the grounding device is reliable, with a grounding resistance ≤4Ω, to prevent static electricity accumulation or arcing from leakage.

2) Protection Device Calibration: Test the sensitivity of overcurrent, overtemperature, and undervoltage protection devices quarterly to ensure rapid power cut-off in case of faults. For n-type explosion-proof gensets, check the fault-limiting current element for integrity to prevent ignition sources under fault conditions.
